How I shot It - Quinceanera feat. JARIELY

I’ve been attending Shutterfest since 2017 and this year, I photographed on a side of the Union Station entrance I’ve never done before. The North side. Normally we find ourselves on the South side because of the cool stairs and such. This was a fun challenge. Sun was high because it was a little after noon and no real cloud cover blocking it out.

Jariely was a fabulous model to work with and she was patient with our group as we walked around outside in the pretty warm May St Louis heat. We are working on building our portfolios so we can start offering quinceanera photography in North Alabama and Southern TN.

Since I used an ultrawide, I’m pretty close to the bottom of the dress, shooting slightly upwards and making sure I try to keep her main body towards the center of the viewfinder to prevent crazy weird distortions.

Tech:

This was a super simple one light set up - I used one AD 200 with a MagSphere on a Manfrotto Nano Stand.

I love being able to work fast and be super portable and I’ve found that the above lighting kit is my go to, and has been since around 2018.

Settings:

Nikon Z8 @ ISO 64 , 1/500 sec

Nikon Z 14-30 F4 @ 14mm, F4

Flash Power: 1/4

Shutterfest has a program called ‘Rent A Human” and this is where you get to “check out” a model from a pool of models for practice and experimenting. This was our first shoot at SF25 and it was a good one!

Want to level up your photography game? Come hang out with us and about 1500 other photographers from around the world as we have fun and learn!
