How I shot It - LANDING feat. ALLY

We had some free time so went to the RAH area to get a model to work with for an hour. Out came Ally. I was like, “Wait a minute! I know you!” I first shot Ally way back in August 2019 at some random sunflower fields in Middle Tennessee at a shoot that was organized by Dorothy. Glad it worked out that we got to shoot this year.

Since I’ve been going to this conference since 2017 - one of the challenging things has become finding a new place to work in, or at least a new way to make a frequently shot at location unique.

We shot this several times, and due to the tight space on the landing, the softbox kept getting reflected in the glass on the back. So we actually had the light held above her while I shot to minimize the reflection.

I chose the 50 1.2 to blur the background as much as possible. I was only about 6’ away standing on the stairs.

For this I used a 3 flash set up. This included a Godox AD200 in a 24x36 umbrella softbox on a Manfrotto Nano Stand, and then 2 Godox TT600 speedlights laying on the ground with Magmod Creative Gels and Spheres to help with diffusion behind ally aimed upwards on the wall.

Settings:

Nikon Z8 @ ISO 64 , 1/50 sec

Nikon Z 50 mm F1.2 @ 1.2

Main Flash Power: 1/4

Rear Flash Power: 1/8
